For decades, Los Rios has delivered outstanding educational opportunities to the students we serve, and have earned the respect and trust of the Greater Sacramento community. Los Rios is one of the nation's most respected learning institutions and the second-largest college district in California.

Sacramento City College

Sacramento City College was founded in 1916 by Belle Cooledge and with an all-female class as its first graduates. The college began with the spirit of inclusion at its very heart, and with more than a century of serving students under its belt, Sacramento City College is the seventh oldest community college in California and the oldest institution of higher learning in Sacramento. For over 100 years, Sacramento City College has remained committed to fostering a learning community that celebrates diversity, nurtures personal growth, and inspires academic and economic leadership.

American River College

Nearly 40 years after the founding of Sacramento City College, American River College opened its doors as California's 61st public junior college in 1955. However, its founding goes back to February 28, 1942, when Grant Union Junior College was established in Del Paso Heights to train civilian personnel for national service during World War II. Today, at over 30,000 students, American River College is among the largest community colleges in the state, and is looked upon as a leader in innovative programs and services.

Cosumnes River College

The college opened in 1970 with just over 2,000 students. The college was named "Cosumnes," a Miwok Indian name meaning "People of the Salmon" as an expression of the people, history and folklore of the Miwok Tribe that inhabited the area near what is now known as the Cosumnes River. Cosumnes River College is a student-centered and open-access community college dedicated to preparing students for an ever-changing future, with programs that empower its diverse students to succeed.

Folsom Lake College

In 2004, Folsom Lake College became the 109th community college in the State of California and the fourth college of the Los Rios Community College District. Its name was derived from the picturesque Folsom Lake, a landmark of the eastern part of the Sacramento region. Folsom Lake College quickly emerged as a growing, vibrant, and dynamic educational institution closely tied to its local communities. The college has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inspiring excellence and empowering its students.
