Types of Financial Aid
The following are types of financial aid you might be able to use to help pay for college and related expenses.
Promise programs offer first-time, full-time students one year of tuition-free education at our colleges. Learn more about the Los Rios Promise, Rancho Cordova Promise, and West Sacramento Promise.
Grants are a great type of financial aid because you don’t typically have to pay them back. Grants come from either the federal or state government.
Federal Direct Loans
A direct loan is money you borrow from the federal government that you have to pay back with interest. We encourage students to apply for grants and scholarships before taking out a student loan.
A private loan is money you borrow from a private lender that you have to pay back with interest. We encourage students to apply for grants and scholarships before taking out a student loan.
A scholarship is money given to you to help pay for your education or related expenses. Scholarships come from a variety of sources, such as your college or a private organization.
